Beautiful portrait Kirk but you're cheating. You cropped this square, not composed. Composing in the square is an entirely unique experience. Cropping afterward isn't the same thing, at least not for me. Some might argue that it doesn't matter, that the end result is the same. I would argue that the process of getting to the end result directly affects that end result, and if the process is different-with the square as the starting point-then the end result will be different. The square is a different head space and that's bound to impact the final image. I'm not usually this cranky, sorry, but I am passionate about the square.
Guess we're all waiting for something like a digital Mamiya 6 or 7. With a sensor in true 6x6 film size, but nothing much else. Or a digital 500CM, so that we can change that film-sized sensor against a black & white one...
It's time that someone starts making something simple like that. Ok the Hassy won't be simple maybe, but the Mamiya...
Hadn't thought of it as useful until using it on E-M5. Definitely gives me a different perspective in composition vs. imagining sides eliminated with 3:2 or cropping afterwards.

My Sony a99 won't shoot square but my little RX100II does. I use it quite a bit.
