I recently went to a gallery show of photographs. All the images were square. The gallery goers were amazed and delighted. Makes me want to shoot square all the time now...

I shoot square 90% of the time. I just love that ratio. One of the reasons that I haven't bonded with my bargain Sony a6000 is that it won't let me shoot square. Lee Friedlander loves square because, in some pictures, you get a much bigger sky. and portraits just sing in square format. Can you guess that I used to shoot Rollei SL66s and TLRs?
To my great pleasure, the newest firmware upgrade to my K-1 provides a square frame: two bold black lines in the finder, but the excess blacked out completely on the rear screen in live view. And yes, with an old 135 2.8, good for portraits.
Kirk - As to the K-1, I like it very much. I have a set of older Limiteds and a 24 and 135, also older. The sum of the 5 lenses was probably not quite the cost of the camera brand new. My goal is prints for exhibition and sale (good luck with that!). I've gone to a 24-inch wide printer and the larger files at about 20x30 inches are just what I've been looking for. Having said that, I'm the last person to ever suggest to someone else that s/he should think about the same camera I have. I also use a Pen F and a Lumix FZ1000 when called for; they're all just fine. I think it's just like when I had everything from 8x10 to 35mm; you used what you needed to use and/or what you liked to use.

Better: keep shooting full frame but/and print square.
james I still shoot with a rollei sl66, it's an amazing instrument and i shoot square with a fuji x pro 1 love the format:)

My Fujis allow me to shoot Square B&W while capturing a raw, 3:2 image at the same time. In-camera I see the Square as I shoot.
